Mark Gettys, AIA

Mark received his Masters in Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture, where we was awarded the Drawing Prize and nominated twice for the H.I. Feldman Prize.  While at Yale, Mark studied under Greg Lynn and Alejandro Zaera-Polo.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, summa cum laude, from Clemson University.

Prior to starting his architecture practice, Mark worked as an associate at Steven Harris Architects where he was project architect for an iconic 1930’s landmarked triplex penthouse on Fifth Avenue in New York City.  Prior to his experience with SHA, Mark was an associate at Diller Scofidio + Renfro where he oversaw numerous high-profile projects, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK, the Columbia University Business School in New York City, and private residences and estates in Saint Barthélemy, the Hamptons, and Los Angeles.

Initially trained as an artist, he has a sculptural perspective on space: focusing on form, light, and shadow; he free-hand sketches his creative ideas into architectural drawings. Three-dimensional modeling and fabrication are integral tools in developing these initial drawings allowing for more advanced visual representation and sophisticated designs. Building Information Modeling and other advanced 3D project delivery tools are vital to his design process, fostering more integrated designs, clearer communication with clients, higher quality construction, and streamlined project timelines.
